Closets offer many benefits in maximizing you storage and shelving options. You can avoid wrinkled clothes, mismatched socks, missing jewelries and many more. There are also many kinds of a closet organizing system depending on your preferences, budget and your needs.

First, you need to decide on the budget that you can allot for this project for this will affect all other areas of your decision making process later on. Determine how much you can or are willing to spend on organizing your closet organizing system before heading to the nearest home improvement store and be sure to stick to it. Remember that getting the best quality storage area will give you a long-term benefit but be sure it still costs within your allotted budget.

Do you want a customized or a pre-made closet? Ask around or shop around to know which would best help you. Most people prefer a custom-made closet organizing system because they could have a lot options when it comes to design, style, size, color and layout. Some just want it pre-made and want to install it themselves. Some closets designs may work for some but may not to you, so evaluate your current setup and needs before deciding which one to buy.

Measurements play a vital role in choosing your closet organizing system. Do not simply buy because it has an impressive design or because it is cheap. It has to perfectly fit and match your current home decor. Measure every angle of your desired area where it will be installed and make sure each piece will belong.

Design say a lot about you.. If you want your closet to be customized then take advantage of the opportunity to choose which design fits your preference. It has to go along with the current theme of your bedroom too, or wherever it will be installed. Getting the right closet organizing system may not be easy but it will be worth all the effort if you make sure what you really want. Determine your budget, your needs, the space you can allot and the design/style you want. With all these in mind, organizing and maximizing storage space would be done in no time.

During winter months, most people’s homes tend to get a little messier than they do during the summer months. The reason for this is everybody feels like winter time is a time to be hidden in a cave. Then the sun starts to shine, the temperatures start to rise, and people suddenly get a burst of energy. This is a time known as spring cleaning time. The reason for this is people’s moods change with the weather, whether we realize it or not. The most popular time for people to thoroughly give their homes a cleaning is during the spring months, hence the name spring cleaning. This makes it a great time of year to get your closets organized and get rid of the clutter that has been stacking up all winter long.

The first thing you want to do what organizing a closet is to make sure that you empty out all of the things that have not been touched in the last 3 to 6 months. Sometimes this is not possible because the items are sentimental and mean something to us therefore need a place in the closet. There are many containers and storage boxes that you can use to place items such as these. It is important though, that you keep the items organized in the closet if you muscled onto them. If you do not plan to bring these items out of the closet within the next 3 to 6 months, then these items belong in the back of the closet or shelf. These are the type of items that you want to keep reachable, but do not need to be gotten out often. I that a thing to consider when plated out the closet, is to keep the things that will not be done out often towards the back, and commonly used items towards the front.

This will keep disaster from happening, and having to dig through your closet every time you want to find something. The best thing to do when trying to organize a closet is to pull everything out, and organizationally put it back in. A great tip to remember is that everything needs its own space. It should not have a temporary home, for instance, do not place things on top of the tub’s and say that you will purchase a box to store it in. Make sure that it has a home where he can be tucked away, unseen, but easily reachable. When placing things back into the closet it is a great idea to keep things in an organized fashion. This means using the same type of hangers for your clothing, and possibly even organizing clothing by color.

The basic tip and rule of thumb to remember here is to get rid of things you do not need, want, or have a place for. 3 to 6 months is a good rule to keep for things that have not been used within that timeframe. This of course does not go for sentimental or personal keep items, but does go for everything else. You should not hold onto clothing that you hope to fit into again someday, or that you do not think will fit within the next 3 to 6 months. This will only cause clutter to compile in the closets.

System is definitely a must when it comes to your home especially in properly organizing your master closet. It is quite obvious that you would know the personality of the person using the closet depending on the organization and system of the contents inside it.

If you are an extremely busy and occupied person, then it is most difficult to keep up an orderly and neat closet especially if you are always late or catching time to avoid tardiness at work or in your activities. Thus, it is quite imminent that when you come back home, you are going to grapple with a totally messy room or master closet.

Clutters and mess inside your closet is definitely not a good sight just as it is potentially a bad component that will give you such a hard time in the future. If you are getting tired of searching amidst piles and piles of items and clothing inside your locker, then it is high time that you start organizing your closet and maintain it for good.

The first step to an organize closet is basically and literally empty it of all its contents. Starting from scratch means that you have the chance to start anew and this is quite easier to do since you can plan out what system to use. Choose a day you can entirely allocate to doing this task especially if you have quite a lot of items in your closet.

It is also a rather great and hygienic idea to clean and vacuum your closet interior while everything is taken out of it to make sure that no dusts or dirt have been accumulated.

After you have finally emptied the storage space and all your clothes and items are out, it is now time to sort everything out. You may be quite astonished as to the number of clothing you have and that how many are you only using and the items that you are merely hoarding and holding on to without using them for ages.

To start with your systematic closet organization, sort your clothing and categorize them into four different labels. First, find out which of these clothes you are using in a daily or regular basis. Second, which clothes are only worn on occasional or special days, third is categorized as the clothes which are still good in quality but you are no longer using or does not anymore fit. Finally, which clothes are meant for you to trash or discard for good.

Be brutally honest with your sorting and make sure that you do not hold on to items which would only add to the clutter and mess or consume precious space inside your storage area.

Now that you have sorted out your clothes, plan on where you must place the different groups of outfits you have. For instance, the upper area of the closet must be allocated to clothes you occasionally or seldom use. Clothes for daily and regular wear is located in the middle or where it is easier to access.

For better or worse, we spend time in our closets everyday. The state of your closet and clothes can either positively kick-start your day or bring your mood way down. Creating and maintaining a clean, well-organized closet is a self-loving practice that can promote a daily dose of good feelings. When you are living life to its fullest as a hip, healthy & sexy woman over 40, an organized closet can serve as positive reinforcement that you are “handling your business”.

If your closet is a hot mess, the first and most important step is to identify why you have kept it in this condition. Often, the condition of our closet is a reflection of other areas in our lives. There is a saying: “How you do one thing is how you do everything.” Take a look around to see the other areas of your life that are waiting for you to take action.

If you are ready to take steps to organize and reduce clutter in your closet (and maybe your life), you will be instantly rewarded by feelings of lightness, clarity and inspiration. These positive feelings may just spill over into other areas of your life. The easiest way to approach this project is to follow these five steps:

Find time
This is your precious time to do something loving for yourself. Honor it by carving out a block of private time without distractions, interruptions or pressures. Turning on your favorite music and some aromatherapy will definitely help you feel relaxed and ready.

Keep an open mind
This is a time to have a tough love talk with yourself. Change can be difficult, but also wonderful! If you find that you don’t want to release clothes that you logically know you should, ask yourself why. Do you have an emotional attachment to certain items? Are your “goal jeans” to hard to let go? If so, this is a good time to remind yourself of the overall goal – the benefits of a clutter-free closet to look and feel good every day.

Be honest
Stand in front of a full-length mirror and try everything on that you are considering keeping. Only keep items that truly flatter you and make you feel good. Remember, the purpose of this process is to create a closet that uplifts you everyday. These are the moments of judgment that will make or break you reaching this goal. Be honest, embrace a mindset of abundance and you will create the closet of your dreams.

Organize in Steps
Create four stacks with clothes that you will:

•	Keep
•	Toss (unusable)
•	Alter
•	Donate

When your closet is empty, place the clothes in the “keep” stack back in your closet, arranging tops and bottoms by color. As for the “toss” stack, throw it away immediately. Take the last two bags to your car; drop one off at a donation center and the other goes to the tailor for alterations.

This is a much lighter article than my normal How-To types, but I thought you might get a kick out of all the crazy stuff I’ve seen in closets. As most of you probably know, there seems to be no limit to the surprises life has in store for you. This is just as true as it is for me, as an organizer, as it probably is for your in personal and/or professional life. But I’ve seen a lot of crazy things in my time, and without trying to embarrass anybody too hard, I thought I’d share a few of these things with you.

Body Parts

Yes. Real body parts. Not as in “somebody hacked a person up and stored them in the closet,” more like amputated toes in formaldehyde. Nasty.

Dead Animals

From mice to rats to even the occasional pet, there’s nothing quite as shocking as finding a dead animal in someone’s closet. What’s funny (if you can call it that), is when they’ll say “We’ve been looking for him and wondered what happened.”

Live Animals

Dead animals are bad enough, but finding breathing animals is just as odd, especially when its a snake. I’m not a snake person, so you can bet your bottom dollar that this one had me jumping out of my skin.

Of course there have been others, like mice, rats, a turtle, birds and bats. Seriously, there seem to be no limit – and it’s not always the “filthy” houses, either. All it takes for a wild animal to find its way in is the teeniest, tiniest little hole.

Money

Okay, maybe this isn’t super crazy compared to the others, but there have been numerous times I’ve found a secret money stash that people had either forgot about long ago, or forgot to move out before I got there. One time I can across an old Gatorade mix jar that had thousands of dollars in cash.

… And yes, I gave all the money back – I’m an honest person, really!

Anyway, I get a kick out of these kinds of things and thought you might, too. As you can see, there’s lots of crazy stuff I’ve seen in closets.

I’m going to keep this short, because you’re probably in a hurry, otherwise you wouldn’t be looking for a “quick way to clean a closet,” right?

Right.

Then lets get right down to it:

Step 1: Pull EVERYTHING out of your closet.

Yes, you read that right, I said “Everything.” Bear with me, this will make sense soon enough. You might need some space in front of your closet to properly do this, so make sure you’ve got it (you don’t want to be carting stuff down the hall – that defeats the purpose of doing this quickly).

While you’re at it, be sure to get a big trash bag.

Step 2: Throw Away ANYTHING You Didn’t Know You Had.

I can almost guarantee you’ll find things that will make you say “huh, I didn’t know I had that.” If you didn’t know you had it (and would probably forget about it by this time tomorrow), chuck it. And while you’re at it, be sure to throw away any actual garbage you find in there, such as useless boxes, pieces of paper, etc…

Step 3: Vacuum The Closet.

See, it’s all starting to make sense now, isn’t it? Now that your closet is bare, vacuum it out. This might be the only time you’ll do this for a while, so make sure you do it right. Get all the corners and crevasses.

It’d also be a good idea to wash the walls, too.

Step 4: Put Everything Back.

Don’t take this step lightly. Use this as an opportunity to re-examine everything as you put it back in. Give serious thought: “Does this absolutely need to be in my closet?”

If not, is it something that can be thrown away? Or at the very least stored in a different location?

See, organizing closets doesn’t have to be that hard, does it? And you have to admit, this is definitely a quick way to clean a closet, too.

It is important that you look into different closet ideas when you are trying to organize your closets. When I first started looking into organizing my closet I researched many different ideas and came up with the one that helped me out the most. This is an important step to consider. If you don’t start out with a good plan you will waste a lot of valuable closet organizing time.

The first step I would recommend is to assess the needs of your closet. What are you trying to store? Is the closet just for clothes? Maybe you have a bunch of boxed items that you don’t want in plain view. Once you figure out what the closet will be used for then you can move forward with the organization process.

One of the best closet ideas is to get wire metal closet organization systems. These will let you see what is stored without having to open up each drawer or holder. They are very easy to set up and shape to your specific closet. Most of these systems are sold at major hardware stores but you can also get better deals is you look around online.

Another one of the good closet ideas I came up with when organizing my closet was to get a bunch of large plastic containers. Then you can put odd objects in them and stack them up on the bottom of the closet so they are out of the way. If you get clear plastic containers you can also see what is inside a lot easier.

Research closet ideas before you start cleaning out your closet. The best idea is to check out different closet organization systems so you can save space and store everything you need.

A system that simplifies your life and organizes the items in your closet is one of the most efficient ways to optimize the use of space inside your home. Closet organizing systems are ideal for the storage of clothes, and can be used for a wide variety of other items such as office materials, garage items, food and pantry items and any belongings in other rooms of the house that need organization.

A custom closet organizing system is an option that is tailored specifically to your closet and your workable space. An organizational consultant will come to your home and make recommendations on how you could be efficiently using your storage space. They can design a layout that will best function in the space provided, including drawers, shelves and a place for hanging items. The professionals can decide on the layout of the custom closet, because they are trained to know how to optimize storage space. You, however, can decide on the color and look of the custom closet. You can decide on the stain or the paint color, as well as the material or type of wood used to create the custom closet.

Custom closets that are designed by a professional organizer can add a significant amount of value to a home. These units are built-in and are made to go with the existing architecture of the home. Shelving units and drawers are very desirable to potential homebuyers, especially those who foresee the need for storing and organizing clutter.

Once the custom closet is installed, it becomes part of the home. But there are options for those who do not wish to install a permanent structure in their closet. A cheaper shelving system can be purchased to fit inside the closet and will give you separated spaces for organization. Customizable shelves that are built to fit inside a closet 6-10 feet wide can be bought and installed, providing a system of organization to your closet. These shelves can usually be adjusted in order to fit into the space more efficiently.

These do-it-yourself systems are typically made of lower quality materials and particleboard. They will not become a permanent part of the home, but they do provide the organizational storage that is much needed. Do-it-yourself kits are a lower priced option for those who need storage and need to get rid of the household clutter that is causing stress and frustration.

The decision to install a closet organization system is one that will provide your family with a clutter-free home. Living without a mess in an organized system of storage will significantly reduce stress and frustration. Items will be easier to find, and you will notice that you’re getting ready more quickly and showing up to work and events on time. When your belongings are organized in a custom closet system, your life will become more efficient and aggravation-free.

Ready to buckle down and Organize that Linen Closet? Great! We all know that the linen closet can quickly become one of the most unkempt areas of the home, but what’s the best way to tackle the issue?

Simple: Take Action

Unlike bedroom closets, linen closets aren’t used frequently. Sometimes not even for weeks on end. So it’s easy to forget about them, and even worse, it provides a great excuse to turn a linen closet into a storage haven for junk, after all “Out of sight, out of mind.”

Organize Linen Closet – Step 1

Clean it out. Organizing a linen closet is no different than organizing anything else, and you can’t do so unless you’ve gone through the contents and decided what you want to keep and what you want to toss. Chances are, by the time you reach the back of the top and bottom shelves you’ll have found things you didn’t even know you had.

Ask yourself if it’s really worth holding on to. If you didn’t even know you had it, you probably won’t miss it. Throw it away, or, better yet, donate it to charity.

As for the rest, you might have to make some tough decisions, but it’ll be worth it in the long run when you open your linen closet and see something that looks like it belongs in a magazine.

Organize Linen Closet – Step 2

Create A System. Store your linens in a way that makes sense to your lifestyle. Do you use towels more often than sheets? Then put them on the middle shelves where you’ll have easier access and be much less included to simply throw them in.

If you’ve seen a magazine photo and want to emulate it, great. But don’t worry if you’re making up your own system from scratch. We all have different brains, and therefore different ways of categorizing things. Create something that makes sense to you.

I would recommend, however, that you keep like items together. For instance, keep towels separate from linen, and heavy blankets away from summer ones. It makes more sense that way, and looks really sharp!

Organize Linen Closet – Step 3

Create Space. The one trick that professional designers use that the general public never thinks about is “negative space,” or simply spaces that don’t have anything in them. When you stack linens on a shelf, make sure to keep at least an inch or two between each pile. It’s a little thing that really makes a great visual effect.

Organize Linen Closet – Step 4

Keep At It. Once you’ve organized your linen closet to your liking, you’re only a fraction of the way there. You need to keep it organized, otherwise it’ll end up the same way it was when you started – which probably isn’t good.

This is important to keep in mind as you’re creating your organization system. Think ahead and plan around your personal organization weaknesses. If you create a system that minimizes your likelihood to abandon the design down the road, you’re 99 percent of the way to a great design.

Even the world’s best organizers often get stumped when it comes to How To Set Up A Linen Closet.

And for pretty good reason, too. While it might seem that, on the surface, a linen closet is one of the easiest closets to organize, the fact is that this assertion couldn’t be any farther from the truth.

Why?

Because of the general nature of linen closets. More often than not, they are small, crammed full of bed sheets, comforters, pillow cases (sometimes even pillows), towels, curtains and other necessary home decorating pieces. These are the items that are relatively “Out of Sight, Out of Mind,” which means most people don’t get that nagging “I need to set up the linen closet” urge like they would, say, a bedroom closet.

Not to mention that we simply don’t get into the linen closet as often as we do the other ones. Which really compounds the “Out of Sight, Out of Mind nature.”

How To Set Up A Linen Closet: Three Easy Tips

While there is no steadfast rule, these three tips should help you develop a system that works for you, while reducing clutter and creating a model home effect.

1. Organize By Type. Create separate spaces for linens, towels and anything else. Don’t let them stack on top of each other, or you’ll get a really messy look.

2. Fold Items To Fit Your Design. The great thing about Linen Closet items is that they are relatively easy to fold into whatever size you need. The mistake most people make is to fold them with a huge footprint. Try tighter folds that leave an inch or two in between piles. So what if each piece stands a little taller. The illusion of space (created by the channels in between) will surprise you.

3. Keep Frequently Used Items In The Convenient Places. If you find yourself using, washing and storing towels more often than linens, then keep the towels on the shelf that’s easiest to manage. It’ll be easier to keep things tidy because you won’t be bending down low or reaching high up on your tippy toes (which increase the odds of tossing things around).

Hopefully this has given you a little extra insight into the common question “How To Set Up A Linen Closet.”
